What information do you need to give me an accurate quote?
Your site address or suburb, the type of project (site prep, driveway, retaining wall, trenching, demolition, subdivision or other), rough dimensions, access notes and your desired timeframe. Photos of the site and access route speed things up. Share as much as you have on the contact page and we will confirm the rest.
Answered before you ask
How much does earthworks cost in Christchurch?
It depends on access, ground conditions, the volume of material to move, disposal distance and whether imported material is needed. We do not publish fixed rates because two similar-looking sites can price very differently. See our cost-factors guide, then request a specific quote for your site.
Do you cover Selwyn and Waimakariri, or just Christchurch City?
We work across Christchurch City and into the Selwyn and Waimakariri districts. Check our locations page for the specific areas we cover, and mention your suburb when you enquire so we can confirm coverage and travel time for your job.
Answered before you ask
Do I need resource consent before earthworks start?
It depends on your zone, the depth and volume of the work, slope, proximity to waterways and other site-specific factors. Christchurch City Council, Selwyn District Council and Waimakariri District Council each publish their own earthworks and resource consent rules. We can flag likely triggers, but you should confirm requirements with your council or planner before committing to a programme.
Can you work out what size digger I need for a tight-access site?
Yes — send us photos and measurements of the narrowest point on your access route (width, height clearance and any corners) and we will talk you through what is realistic before you book anything.

Do you handle drainage, retaining wall design or geotechnical reports yourselves?
We excavate for drainage, retaining walls and foundations, and we coordinate closely with the licensed drainlayers, structural designers and geotechnical engineers those jobs need — but we are not a drainlaying, engineering or design business ourselves. If your project needs one of those specialists, we can work alongside them or point you in the right direction.
Answered before you ask
Is drainlaying included in an excavation service?
Don't assume it is. Excavation and licensed drainlaying are different trades. We excavate for drainage and coordinate with a licensed drainlayer for installation, connection and certification — confirm who is doing what before you book the trenching.
Can I hire a digger without an operator?
Our current offer is digger and truck hire with an operator. Dry hire (machine only, no operator) is not confirmed as an option — ask when you enquire and we will let you know.
Answered before you ask
Can I send through plans and site photos before we talk?
Yes — attach them to your enquiry email once you have our contact details confirmed, or bring them to a site visit. Getting good access photos in particular speeds up an accurate quote.
Do you handle resource consent applications?
No — that sits with your planner, architect or the relevant council. We can flag when a project is likely to need consent based on scope, depth or zone, but the application itself is not something we complete on your behalf.
