Equipment and access for concrete removal
Concrete removal runs an excavator with a hydraulic breaker sized to the slab, a saw for cut lines, and tip trucks for cartage. Thickness and reinforcing drive the machine choice more than area does, and heavily reinforced commercial slabs need more machine than a domestic path. Where clean material is worth retaining, a crusher can be brought in rather than carting everything away.
Plan around the work
Breaking concrete is loud and dusty for as long as it runs, which is the noisiest part of most groundworks jobs. Expect truck movements for cartage and the work area out of use throughout. Where a driveway is being removed, plan for no vehicle access to the property for that period, and we will confirm the likely duration before starting.

What makes concrete removal go wrong is almost always what was underneath it. Slabs get laid over drainage, water and power runs, and a hydraulic breaker gives no warning before it finds one, so the service check matters more here than the breaking does. The second thing is disposal: on most jobs carting the rubble away costs more than breaking it out, so whether clean material can be crushed and kept on site is worth settling before work starts rather than after. And any void left behind needs compacted backfill, or the new surface above it settles within a year or two.
How is this different from your demolition service?
Demolition is for structures — a house, garage or shed coming down, including its slab. Concrete removal is for concrete where there is no building involved: driveways, paths, patios, slabs, steps, foundations and pool shells. If a structure is part of it, demolition is the right page.
Can you remove an old concrete swimming pool?
Yes. A concrete shell is broken out, the reinforcing separated, the material removed, and the void backfilled and compacted in layers so the area can carry lawn, garden or paving afterwards. Compaction is the part that matters most on a pool void.
Can the old concrete be reused instead of carted away?
Often, if it is clean. Crushed concrete makes good fill or temporary access, and keeping it on site cuts both the disposal cost and the number of truck movements. We will tell you whether yours is suitable.
What if there are pipes or cables under the concrete?
That is common, which is why a beforeUdig check and a look at what the slab was serving comes before the breaker. Where a service is confirmed beneath, we work around it carefully rather than breaking blind.
Is removing reinforced concrete more expensive?
Yes. Mesh and bar have to be cut and separated from the rubble, which is slower work and needs more machine. We assess thickness and reinforcing at the site visit so the quote reflects what is actually there.
Will the ground be ready to build or pave on afterwards?
It is left graded and compacted ready for the next stage. Where a new driveway, slab or structure is going in, that trade will have their own base and compaction requirements, and we prepare to those where you tell us what they are.
