Working conditions
Equipment and access for erosion control & drainage grading
Grading for erosion and sediment control is typically carried out with excavators, sometimes paired with compaction equipment depending on the site. Steeper or more awkward faces occasionally need smaller, more manoeuvrable attachments to reshape safely.
Plan around the work
Reshaped ground is left exposed until it's stabilised, so timing around weather matters, and we try to avoid leaving bare soil uncovered ahead of heavy rain. Temporary vehicle tracks may be needed to reach affected areas, and these are reinstated once work is finished.

Erosion Control & Drainage Grading: decisions that matter
This is grading and shaping work carried out to support an erosion or sediment control plan, it isn't drainlaying and it isn't stormwater design authority. Getting the contours wrong can undermine a council-approved control plan or push water and sediment onto neighbouring land, so the shaping needs to match what the plan's designer specified and stay coordinated with them throughout.
Do you design the erosion or sediment control plan?
No, we carry out the grading and shaping to a plan prepared by an engineer or accredited erosion and sediment control designer. If you don't have a plan yet, that's the first step before we can quote the groundworks.
Is this the same as drainlaying?
No. We grade and shape ground to manage surface water and support erosion control, we don't install stormwater pipework or hold drainlaying qualifications. Any piped drainage needs a licensed drainlayer.
Can you help if I don't have a formal control plan?
For smaller jobs we can discuss the site's water and erosion issues directly and grade accordingly, but larger or consented sites usually need a proper plan from a qualified designer first.
What happens to the sediment traps afterward?
Sediment traps are usually temporary measures maintained through the construction period and reinstated once the site is stabilised, which is generally managed by whoever holds the consent.
Can this work happen during wet weather?
We try to avoid major reshaping immediately before heavy rain, since freshly graded soil is more vulnerable to erosion until it's stabilised or covered.
Do you work on coastal properties near the water's edge?
Yes, though foreshore and coastal margin work often carries its own consent requirements, so we'd confirm what's needed with you and the relevant council before starting.
